Operator's Master Class
Questionnaire
We are proud to welcome you to the 5th Steadicam Guild Master Class.

The concept behind this workshop is that it picks up where most others leave off, in that we will focus on finesse and advanced skills. Due to
the intimate size of the group, we will have the opportunity to simulate the real-world repetition of a given practice shot as it goes from
rehearsal to picture with multiple takes, and learn exactly when one is delivering a "printable" take and what can subsequently improved until
it is as good as it can be. To this end it will be helpful to know more about each of you and at what level you are currently working.

Please take a few minutes to respond to the following questions. Thank you!

How long have you been operating Steadicam?
How long have you been a Conventional camera operator?
What do you consider are your strengths regarding your Steadicam work?
Your weaknesses? i.e. What would you like to work on (we've all got 'em!)
Please describe the rig you will be bringing (could be as simple as "Ultra2" or as complicated as (in my case) "PRO
DB2/PRO J-box/XCS post/TB6/PRO1 lower j-box/Steadyrig Anton Bauer Battery Hanger/PRO arm/ Klassen harness"
Also describe your camera. I.e., Full-size, witness camera, cam corder?
If using a weight plate/practice cage, do you have low-mode capability?
My recommendation is that you not go for a "full-size" weight experience unless you are feeling exceptionally buff - the
shot on the second day is going to be long and strenuous, so if you can make your rig approximate a 16mm or light 2/3"
camera setup (around a 25lb camera payload), it may be to your benefit.
Please let me know what format you will be using to record.
We will be recording and playing back your takes on an external monitor. The best for us is if you can record on DV,
as we will have a deck there for playback. Archos-type recorders and other tape formats are less desirable as they
take time to connect to the monitor and can make pausing, rewinding etc. more complicated.
Along these lines, we will be feeding your cameras sound via two channels of wireless.
Velcro will be supplied to attach the wirelesses to your rig.
Two male XLR's will be the standard cabling from the
wirelesses. If your recorder requires a different cable, please let me know ASAP
. The sound is important for playback of
the shot we are doing with actors to make sure that you are hitting the cues properly.
Transmitter--a standard UHF model like a Modulus or Canatrans is ideal.
If you have one that uses a dedicated tuner, please indicate that.
Any questions?
